چکیده
A meiotic chromosome number of n=9 is reported for Eliea articulata, a monospecific genus Hypericaceae endemic to Madagascar. This first report the new small tribe Cratoxlyeae which includes only one other genus, Cratoxylum. hypothetical scenario origin provided in context known numbers Cratoxylum and two tribes Hypericaceae. Given that x=12 has been proposed as basic family with n=11 n=10 also related species genera, appears have arisen descending dysploid from these higher numbers. Field photos articulata are along distribution map camera lucida drawings figures.

Deforestation and apparent extinctions of endemic forest beetles in Madagascar
Madagascar has lost about half of its forest cover since 1953 with much regional variation, for instance most of the coastal lowland forests have been cleared. We sampled the endemic forest-dwelling Helictopleurini dung beetles across Madagascar during 2002-2006. Our samples include 29 of the 51 previously known species for which locality information is available. The most significant factor ex...
متن کاملOn monospecific genera in prokaryotic taxonomy
A monospecific genus contains a single species ever since it was proposed. Though formally more than half of the known prokaryotic genera are monospecific, we pick up those which actually raise taxonomic problems by violating monophyly of the taxon within which it resides. Taking monophyly as a guiding principle, our arguments are based on simultaneous support from 16S rRNA sequence analysis an...
متن کاملPopulation dynamics of mosquito species in a West Nile virus endemic area in Madagascar
Human and animal serological surveys suggest that West Nile virus (WNV) circulation is widely distributed in Madagascar. However, there are no reported West Nile fever outbreaks or epizootics in the country and only one fatal human case has been reported to date. Currently there is very limited information on the maintenance and the transmission of WNV in Madagascar and particularly on the mosq...
متن کاملThe Natural History of Endemic Families and Subfamilies of Birds of Madagascar
Note: This is a first-draft translation and my French skills are limited. I used Google translate for the many words I didn’t know, and in those cases I can’t be sure that I chose the most accurate English words to represent what the French was trying to say. For the most part, I translated everything as literally as possible in such a way that things still make sense in English so I moved word...
متن کاملAssessing hygienic behavior of Apis mellifera unicolor (Hymenoptera: Apidae), the endemic honey bee from Madagascar.
Hygienic behavior (HB) is one of the natural mechanisms of honey bee for limiting the spread of brood diseases and Varroa destructor parasitic mite. Objective of our study was to measure HB of Apis mellifera unicolor colonies (N = 403) from three geographic regions (one infested and two free of V. destructor) in Madagascar. The pin-killing method was used for evaluation of the HB. Responses wer...
